Finding Myself in Motherhood: Reflections on the First 6 Months
The past 6 months of motherhood have been a whirlwind of change, but amidst it all, I've been finding myself in ways I never expected.
After years of medical training, I thought I knew what it meant to lose myself to a career and then rediscover who I am. But motherhood? That's been a whole new level of self-discovery.
It hasn't been easy. From the early struggles I wrote about before, to battling stomach bugs that wreak havoc on my milk supply, to navigating the guilt of prioritizing my family over my career, there have been moments of doubt and exhaustion. And yeah, I've definitely dropped the ball on the dog mom front a few times.
Sleep? Let's just say it's become a rare luxury. But amidst the chaos, there are these incredible moments where I feel more like myself than ever before. Like when my son smiles at me after daycare, or reaches out for comfort when he needs it most.
Sure, I miss the old me sometimes. The one who could enjoy spontaneous outings and uninterrupted sleep. But this new version of myself? She's resilient, compassionate, and fiercely devoted to her family.
So here's to embracing the journey of motherhood, and all the ways it's helping me find myself again. Cheers to 6 months of motherhood, and to all the moms out there discovering new strengths every day.
